First of all I apologize for a complete lack of updates during the WSOP. Its been crazy to say the least, and ive done a poor job with my blog.
So, I was very anxious to the start of my Main Event, which was day 1C and made sure i got plenty of rest and was ready to go. I stayed away from the madness of the WSOP partying for the mot part, with the exception of our Bluff party, and the Bodog players party at the Palms.
My starting table was filled with unrecoginizable faces, that was until Sorel Mizzi sat down to my immediate left. Great, i thought, one of the most successful online tournament players is going to torture me all day. A few hours in, David Sklansky was moved a couple of seats to my right, and I was also told the guy in the five seat had won a bracelet in the 2007 WSOP Pot LImit Hold'em event. Definately not a juicy table.
I started the last level of the day with only $18,000 and was upset about how the day had progressed. I was up to about $35,000 in during the second level, but couldnt seem to hold on to my chips. With about an hour and a half left in the day I stormed back to about $35,000 when my aces held up on a pretty scary board vs. Mizzi. I would have been happy to end the day after that pot, but unfortunately I tangled with Sorel again when I had Aces in the SB, against Mizzi. The flop was KcTc5c, and I checked hoping the very agressive Mizzi would stab at the pot, allowing me to re-raise and take it down. To my dismay he checked behind, and the 5h fell on the turn. I led out, and Mizzi raised. There are so many hands he could have raised me with in this spot, that i didnt think i could give up on my Aces just yet. Although every time i think about it, i realize how poor my line of thinking was. The river was an off-suit 3, and I checked. Mizzi Bet about $8,000. If I folded I would have left my self with just under 30K, which would have been fine. My gut screamed fold, but I just couldnt, a very amateur call to say the least. Mizzi rolled over the Qd-5d for trip fives, and I was left in bad shape. A spot that got worst when Greg Hopkins limped with tens, and I caught top pair on the flop in the big blind. I lost a nice bit of chips there, leaving me with only $8,550 going into day two.
So I guess the good news is that i made it through the day, however I am crippled. Its so difficult, waiting for the main event to start for months, and then dealing with the misery that it creates. Now I have to wait until Wednesday for my fate to be sealed. Its not out of the question to double up and get back into the hunt. The blinds are 250/500 with an ante, so essentially I have a few orbits to pick my spot. If I can double up to 20K, Ill have a shot to be a little bit more patient, but Ill definately still have to be on the offensive. I am optomistic because, well, its better than feeling miserable about the situation. |
