thepokerdb houses more multi-table tournament results than anywhere on the Internet.  When it comes to calculating a true rank for online players, more data is better.  Not only is our data not limited to large-scale prize pools, we also add in a small negative figure for non-cash tournaments.  This means that volume isn't the number one determining factor in high rankings.

All sit n go's and satellites are excluded from the rankings

All players in the Upper 15%
10 * (Sqrt(players) / Sqrt(finishing position)) * (1 + Sqrt(buy-in))

All players in the Lower 85% receive negative points
((Entire point pool of all upper 15% / number of players in the lower 85%) * 0.25) * -1

The formula listed above is used to calculate each year's POY rankings. Only the points accumulated during each particular calendar year are used for POY rankings. The startdate of the tournament must begin on, or later than, January 1st at 12:00 AM and startdate must begin on, or earlier than, December 31st at 11:59 PM for each given calendar year.

Player of the Year Rankings are typically updated each Tuesday and on the last day of each calendar month.

The formula listed above is used to calculate the BLUFF Online Poker Rankings. All points accumulated during the last 12 calendar months, and points accumulated for each week of the current month are used. Example: Current date is March 13th, 2008: In addition to March 2007 through February 2007, March 1st through March 9th (our ranking weeks go monday through sunday) would be used.

Month-to-month performance note: When viewing the month-to-month performance of any particular player, their attached screennames are not taken into account. You'll only see the monthly performance numbers for each player particular to a single poker site.
